Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. This is Binky getting a treat after taking is meds. The Binkster cannot be fooled! He often pretends to take his medicine, but then spits it out. He hates his meds…and absolutely knows when we give him a container of applesauce that has been tampered with. He must pull off the wrapper himself, so we cannot trick him at all. Binky likes the honest truth so we have to tell him what we are doing, and then provide great things after he does what we need–but only he decides if he will or if he won’t take the meds. We have found that if we are totally honest and have the nasty tasting meds in one container, and the good untouched foods beside, we have far more co-operation. Binky and many others prefer this system of take the bad and then get a good-tasting chaser. We have tried all the other methods–hiding pills in bananas, NOPE. Disolving pills in hot water then stirring in some wonderful food, NOPE. These guys are masters at tasting things. Meds are definitely one of the biggest challenges we face daily, so a little applesauce chaser sometimes does the trick.
